THERE IS NOTHING MORE LIKELY TO DRIVE A MAN MAD THAN AN UNDENIABLE PREFERENCE FOR THE TRUE TO THE AGREEABLE

THE GOLDEN AGE

DIRECTORS OVERVIEW:
In my final semesters at Howard University, I had the privilege of leading the annual springfest fashion show as head chair alongside the gifted Madisen Suell. Together we oversaw a staff of over 70 members, worked with an overall budget of more than $︎︎︎,︎︎︎ and collaborated with a number of internationally renowned companies in addition to organizing event advertising.

PROMOTIONAL MATERIAL:

The Golden Age was an intense flashback to the original cultural revival in the African American Community. When working on fashion shows I draw heavy inspiration from theater and film, I want the audience to feel as if they’re watching a performance. I often include a main story within the show as well as an individual present to walk the audience through the experience.

PLANNING:

I relied primarily on editorial fashion and vintage runways, breaking away from typical, one dimensional fashion culture found at HBCUS. I concentrated on two aspects: static models and models who walked only once, maybe twice. The shift went against the grain of what many expected and were used too, it put the willingness of our models and departments at risk but also presented the opportunity for newfound excitement.

I pride myself on approaching my projects with the mindset “what can I do to make this different then anything before” The result was a pioneering performance that established a precedent for defying tradition and revitalizing the community's production quality and execution as well as general displays of art
